Received new photos of Cowboy – he has blue eyes! I’m so happy – brown eyes are nice too, but
with his coloring the blue will be really dramatic. I did notice that his left eye doesn’t have
much pigment around it – but I’ve seen that in the blue and white before with
no ill effects.
He is around three weeks old now, and I’m told he is very
mellow and loves attention from everyone.
That is good; as once he is obedience trained I plan on getting him
certified as a therapy dog.
I’ll do some agility with him as well but as my knees aren’t
great, I’ll either have to get someone else to run him or train him so well
that I’ll just have to stand in the middle of the course and tell him which
obstacles to take. I think we could get there in about nine or ten years – just
about when he’s ready to retire…
I would also like to do some herding with him, but I think
only sheep and ducks. Cows are pretty
nasty and I’ve seen too many pups get kicked, stepped on and head butted to put
my dog in that kind of situation. But those Aussies are pretty hard-headed, and
every one of the dogs I’ve seen in those predicaments just jump up and keep
going, so who’s to say? I’ll wait and
see what his temperament gets to be when he’s older.
And of course he’ll learn some service dog training. Not
that I would ever place him with anyone else, but it’ll good for him to learn. It
will teach him to be able to just “chill out” when I need him to, and will
teach him to think and to solve simple problems (yeah, like Aussies need any
help in that department).
